Here is some interesting notes from the logs. These messages do *not* appear when I boot with the older kernel.
Dec 2 14:44:13 nicaea kernel: [ 2.709034] No connectors reported connected with...
Thanks for the reply! I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.1 (AMD64). I don't have any proprietary drivers loaded. In terms of hardware:
Model ZBOXSD-ID12-U
- Intel Atom D525 1.8 GHz Dual-Core
- Intel NM10...
To continue to troubleshoot this problem, I've disconnected and reconnected my hdmi video cable. This does not work. My monitor still goes to sleep as if there isn't any hdmi signal going to it. If...
I am running 12.04 (AMD_64). The latest kernel upgrade on my Zotac Atom 525-based machine results in my monitor going to sleep immediately on boot. I see the bios splash screen and the standard...
Thank you *very* much! This fixed it for me. I set my low speed at 20 and the high at 30. It is significantly quieter. Yea!
Let me know if you find a solution. I've been considering disabling the fan completely since the noise is really frustrating. I'd hate to fry my card...
One last bump. Any help would be appreciated!
Please help. :)
As an update, the above is one way to fix the underscan problem.
Alternatively, my Samsung TV allows you to change the picture type to "Just Fit" and this resolves the problem. :)
Bump
My Ubuntu 12.04 HTPC is loud. I traced the noise down to the fan on the video card. The card is an Nvidia GT 430. It runs at 65% no matter what I do.
I am running the latest drivers from Nvidia:...
Over the last couple days I have been struggling with underscan on my HTPC (by default a couple inches of my screen would be cut off). Adjusting underscan in the Catalyst Control Center solved the...
Bump. I'm happy to do my own Google research, I just need to be pointed in the right direction. :)
Moving large files, I typically get 30Mb/sec - 40Mb/sec from my desktop to my file server using Samba. My desktop is running Ubuntu Desktop 11.10 and my file server is running Ubuntu Server 11.10.

No. When I lock down the Switching feature the Indicator is disabled (hidden).
No, it's not.
Just to make sure I'm not confusing things:
As far as I know, you can use the switching feature from three locations in Unity:
1) Screen lock (after screen saver resume).
2)...
Thank you very much Krytarik! I know it's probably not possible, but it would be nice to keep the user name indicator in the panel but disable the switching functionality. The computer I'm working...
Found a partial solution. As Krytarik suggested, I looked in dconf-editor. The required setting is under: org->gnome->desktop->lockdown->disable-user-switching. I also edited:...
Hi Krytarik -- I mean disabling the feature completely. I thought there may be a setting in gconf-editor that would disable this functionality. The link you provided discusses removing the panel...
Does anyone know how to disable fast-user switching in 11.10 (Unity)? I've come across some posts that talk about doing this in Gnome, but nothing related to Unity.
Actually, this ended up being a problem with my router and not the wireless card -- it seems to work just fine using N (5 Ghz) and Ubuntu 11.10 (32 bit).
This wasn't a problem with my new wireless card -- it is working just fine in 11.10. A restart on my router and now I can see my N (5 Ghz) SSID!
I am having this same problem with my new Intel 6230 WiFi card on 11.10 and I just posted on this in the hardware forum. Did you ever find a solution?
I think it may make sense for me to move my post to the Wireless area. I'll look into doing that...
