Right-click on it, and choose remove (or delete)...

Right-click on your Main Menu, and choose Edit Menus. In my Intrepid it's under Applications. Maybe you can remove it from there.

Thanks, but I'm talking about the icon in the notification area, not the menu. It's odd because i've completely uninstalled all of the universal access features.

Maybe you have to log out and in and for the changes to take place. Otherwise I wouldn't know how to help you further...
You could try in Synaptic..

The area to the left f the clock where your battery icon, wireless icon, package management in progress icon, etc appear.

I figured it out. Thanks much for the help. For anybody who google searches up this thread with the same problem as me, take it off with alt-f2 gnome-keyboard-properties. under accessibility uncheck the box that says accessibility features can be toggled with keyboard.
